Human Oversight and Guardrails

A guardrail constrains inputs, outputs or actions. Guardrails may be deterministic rules, classifiers, policy checks, permission gates or human review. They complement rather than replace system design and evaluation.

Human in/on the loop describes meaningful human authority. In the loop usually means approval or contribution is required; on the loop means people supervise and can intervene. The control must match consequence and reversibility.
