Social State and Relationships

Social state model showing user model, self model, relationship model and social context.

A personalized system adapts outputs to a profile. A social agent models the relationship itself. The difference matters because a user preference is not the same as a role agreement, a relationship norm or an agent self-boundary.

A user model may say that the user prefers diagrams. A self model may say the agent should behave as a reflective research partner rather than an authority. A relationship model may say that respectful disagreement is acceptable in this recurring collaboration. These records have different authority and should be corrected through different mechanisms.

Relational memory is ethically sensitive. It can support continuity, but it can also create undue familiarity, persuasion asymmetry or dependency. The agent should avoid silently inferring deep psychological claims from weak evidence.
